
V současné době se spotřeba polypropylene (PP) v automobilovém průmyslu pohybuje kolem 15 % celkové globální spotřeby a samotný podíl polypropylenu na celkovém obsahu plastů v automobilu je 50 %.
Mezi hlavní výhody polypropylenu patří především jeho nízká hmotnost, malá ekologická zátěž při výrobě, snadná zpracovatelnost a možnost recyklace. Polypropylen můžeme v automobilech najít jak na vnějších (nárazníky, spoilery) tak i vnitřních dílech (panel přístrojové desky, dveřní výplň, středové konzole atd.). Další možností pro využití polypropylenových kompozitů v automobilovém průmyslu je nahrazení plechových výlisků klasickými konstrukčními polymery a technickými plasty.
